Recent Redundancy win in the Authority

This decision is a welcomed one. The Employment Relations Authority has often been reluctant to award significant compensation to employees who were on the receiving end of a botched redundancy. The process required for a fair redundancy is very clear. When employers simply make someone redundant with no process at all the level of compensation given to employees should be the same as when employees are dismissed 'out of the blue' for misconduct.

The award of $18 000 in this case is more in keeping with the level of compensation that employees deserve when they are treated this way.
