We are incredibly proud to announce that Mathews Walker has reached a very special milestone.

500 five-star Google Reviews. Auckland, Wellington Christchurch

For us, this is about far more than a number. Each review represents a real person who came to us during a difficult time in their working life. Many felt stressed, uncertain or powerless. Some had lost their jobs, while others were facing bullying, disciplinary action, an unfair redundancy or another serious workplace problem.

Reaching 500 five-star reviews tells us that our advocates are making a meaningful difference. It also highlights the qualities our clients value most: empathy, expertise, clear communication and the determination to achieve the best possible result.

Empathy when clients need it most

Employment disputes can affect a person’s confidence, income, health and family life. Clients often contact us when they are overwhelmed and unsure what to do next. Our reviews repeatedly recognise the care shown by our advocates. One client described how Pam was reassuring and understanding throughout the process. Pam helped her feel comfortable, recognise the strength of her position and regain confidence in herself.

Another client thanked Emma for supporting her through an emotional and difficult situation with her employer. With Emma beside her, she achieved an outcome that was much better than she had hoped for.  Clients have also described how Adrian made a highly stressful situation feel more manageable. This matters to us. A good advocate should not only understand employment law, they should understand the person who is going through the dispute.

Expertise that creates confidence

When your employment is at risk, you need advice that is clear, practical and based on experience. Clients regularly tell us that our advocates explain their options, answer questions and help them understand what will happen next. One client said Simon gave clear advice, remained supportive and made them feel safe and comfortable throughout the process. They had full confidence in his ability to handle their workplace dispute and achieve the best possible result.

Another client described Paul as thorough, knowledgeable, prompt and professional. Paul’s expertise helped resolve the matter quickly and achieve an excellent outcome. These reviews show the value of having an experienced advocate in your corner, someone who can identify when an employer may have acted unfairly, explain your rights and build a strong strategy for addressing the problem.

Persistence when a case becomes difficult

Not every employment dispute is resolved easily. Some employers refuse to acknowledge what has happened. Others delay, deny responsibility or take a firm position. Our advocates know that resilience and persistence can be essential. Clients have thanked our team for the time, preparation and hard work invested in their cases. One praised Paul’s patience and commitment throughout the process. The outcome did more than resolve the dispute, it helped the client regain confidence and feel better able to stand up for themselves in the future.

Our advocates remain focused when negotiations become challenging. They keep communicating, gathering information and working towards a fair result. Where a matter cannot be resolved through negotiation or mediation, we are also prepared to represent clients in the Employment Relations Authority.

Results that can change lives

Our clients’ definitions of a positive result can differ. For some, it means financial compensation or recovering lost wages. For others, it may mean negotiating an exit package, correcting an unfair employment record, receiving an apology or simply being able to leave a damaging workplace with dignity. Many reviews describe results that met or exceeded expectations. However, we know the value of advocacy is not measured by money alone. A positive result can also mean:

  • Feeling heard and believed

  • Understanding what your employer should have done

  • Having someone speak on your behalf

  • Regaining confidence after unfair treatment

  • Bringing a stressful dispute to an end

  • Being able to move forward with your life

Those outcomes are at the heart of why Mathews Walker exists.

Thank you to our clients and advocates

We are deeply grateful to every client who has trusted us with their story. We also appreciate everyone who took the time to leave a Google review. Your feedback helps other employees know that support is available and that they do not have to face a workplace dispute alone.

We are equally proud of our advocates. Reaching 500 five-star reviews reflects the empathy, expertise, patience and resilience they bring to their work every day. This milestone belongs to our entire team, and to the clients who allowed us to stand beside them.

We look forward to continuing to help employees throughout New Zealand stand up for fair treatment at work.
